Ear Hat 3.0The newest Ear Hats, Connected 3.0, are a radical departure from the previous Ear Hats.  First off, they have a new pattern.  Pass.  They aren't as tall as the previous version.  The last ones were around 3" tall and these look to be around 2.5" tall.  Both have the same diameter, around 7" but the new ones have a lot less foam liner.  The upside o

Totem wand components

This is a tear down of the Rivers of Light Totem Wand, the most recently released Made with Magic product. The Totem wand is intended to complement the Rivers of Light show at Animal Kingdom but will work any where Made with Magic is supported.

It's also a Made with Magic controller, just like the Sorcerer's Wand and Magic Paintbrush.

Paintbrush The Magic Paintbrush is associated with the Paint the Night Parade. If you're lucky enough to be near a park featuring that parade, you may be able to get your hands on one of these little beauties.

Like it's cousin, the Magic Wand, it's intended to function as a controller of other Made With Magic products. In that regard, it functions like the Magic Wand. However, it's unique in that it's the only current Made With Magic product with audio capabilities.

In this article, a tear down reveals the audio subsystem and describes how it functions.

Magic WandThe Sorcerer Mickey's Magic Wand was released in October of 2014 along with two other new Made With Magic products.

This item and the Paintbrush are the only two Made With Magic products sold by Disney that act as controllers of the other products.

Presented here is a tear down of version 1.2 of the "GlowWand", along with details of the stored codes and links to some of the known hacks.

Headband v2.2The Headband item has been reimagined!  That's good news.  The previous version was a bit awkward to wear and the pink material encasing the Made With Magic components distorted many colors and often caused missed command signals. Here, a complete tear-down reveals what's new.

Highlights:

  • weight distribution improved
  • fabric layer no longer covering MWM components
  • power switch moved to underside of right ear
  • batteries moved to headband under each ear

Creator: khyizang glove board desoldered and components ready to solder
URL: bringmagichome.com page
Notes:

The board found in the Made With Magic Glove product is a hacker's dream. Connections for the four LEDs and the infra red receiver are all through-hole type connections. That lends themselves to easier replacement than if surface mounts had been used. The battery holder is a perfectly good standalone piece that's simply wired to the Glove's board. As if those features weren't enough, these days the Glove product sells for substantially less than the other MWM products. What's not to like?

Chernabog Sipper Cup Since July 17th, 2015, the Chernabog Sipper Cup has been available at selected Disneyland kiosks. It's main function is a drink container and Chernabog is featured in the Fantasmic show, so you'll find this in the carts and kiosks around the Rivers of America and not in the merchandise stores.   You might even catch site of them over at the Blue Bayou as you sail by on your way to your pirate adventure.  I've seen them there towards the center of the back wall of the restaurant.

Here, the components are disassembled and examined for unique features.

Minnie Mouse Headband

The Minnie Mouse headband was among a group of new Made With Magic devices that were released in October of 2014.  From time spent in the parks, it seems to be one of the more popular MWM items.  However, despite it's relative popularity, I don't recall seeing a previous online tear down posted for this device.  Nor does it seem to be much favored by MWM hackers.  Maybe that will change as folks get to know it a little better.

In this article, the teardown is described along with other pertinent information

New Ear Hat 2016

Released in early 2016, this newest version of the Ear Hat departs substantially from the previous Ear Hats. The single battery holder that used to be located towards the top of the hat has been broken out into two separate holders, one under each ear. Also, the on/off switch has migrated to the underside of the right ear. Much more convenient.

Check out the article for additional info and details of the teardown.

Mickey glove

This member of the Made With Magic (MWM) family was introduced in the US in October of 2014, but was reported to be available at the Hong Kong park as early as September of that same year.

This is the only Made With Magic product that comes with light pipes. It's also the only readily available product that features 4 RGB LEDs instead of just 2. Like the Wand product, this item uses water-clear, through-hole RGB LEDs instead of the more usual surface mounted LEDs. Read the article for more info on this unique offering.
